Alan is a top-class teacher. He is very knowledgeable, patient, and explains techniques, note reading, and his expectations very well. I love the way he calms me down when I am irritated by my lack of progress and when I am too hard on myself.
He is also very understanding. I picked the flute/recorder lessons because I have a progressive lung disease, and playing the recorder makes my lungs work harder. On a bad day, I cannot really play a whole piece, and he is fully understanding and delicately suggests having a break by telling me: let me show you what I mean... and plays the piece. His sense of humor means that we have the occasional laugh too, which is great. In summary, if you do not book Alan, it is your loss.

Alan Marcio is a talented, dedicated, patient, flute tutor. His attention to detail, knowledge of the flute, different musical genres and technical and musical abilities are second to none. Not only have I improved my flute playing under his tutelage, I have grown in confidence as a player. Alan encourages his students to push themselves while providing exercises and music that compliments each student’s individual needs and goals. His pedagogical methodologies are well crafted, thoughtfully produced and help students develop their technique, tone, and musicality. I have been taking weekly lessons with Alan Marcio since September and I hope our lessons will continue long into the future because I have seen a significant improvement in my playing and my love for the flute has blossomed in the last few months due to Alan Marcio’s teaching, support and guidance.
