Hey! I’m Miri and I’ve been playing the violin since I was five. As well as my 15 years of classical training through private lessons, I attended the music-focused Händel-Gymnasium in Berlin. There, I not only learnt to love playing in an orchestra but also received a comprehensive musical education. In recent years, my musical interests have broadened to include other musical styles, mainly through travelling to countries in the Balkans and Eastern Europe. I feel particularly at home with Turkish, Bulgarian and Greek music, and have been able to acquire new techniques and knowledge about the violin. I have spent the last five years living in Israel, where I completed my studies in Creative Music and Musical Direction at the ‘Internal Compass’ Jazz Institute; since then, I have been leading a jazz string quartet and ensemble there. I have also been giving private lessons for the past four years and work with pupils of all ages. Alongside my teaching activities, I play in several projects, including the band ‘Tau-Ensemble’, which I co-founded, and the ‘East-West Orchestra Beer Sheva’.

In my lessons, I place particular emphasis on playful methods and exploring the instrument with patience and curiosity. For me, enjoying playing and developing a deep connection with the instrument are the foundations of good music-making. Depending on the student’s preferences and experience, we will familiarise ourselves with technical fundamentals, work on repertoire from a wide variety of styles (classical, jazz, Balkan, Turkish, Greek, Irish) and explore improvisation as a means of expression. If you’d like to broaden your stylistic horizons, we can explore jazz improvisation as well as the playing techniques and ornamentation of Turkish and Greek music. I use aural training and harmony as tools to establish a holistic, fundamental understanding of music, which can be applied not only to playing the violin but also to many other areas of music. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, young or old, your needs and interests are my priority, and I look forward to supporting your progress with patience and creativity.

I have met and learned from many teachers throughout my life, but Miri is truly one of the most passionate, patient, and flexible teachers I have ever encountered. She has a wonderful way of making you feel comfortable and supported while still encouraging you to grow and improve.
With Miri, I worked on violin, trumpet, music theory, eastern melodies, and composing. We spoke both German and English. The lessons were structured, moving step by step from simple to complex — and most of the time, it felt less like a lesson and more like chatting with a friend. Safe, supported, easy.
