À propos de Sara
Hello! My name is Sara and I'm a native English speaker born and raised in New York City, in the heart of the East Village. I moved to Paris this summer after completing my Master's degree in Urban Planning. For my undergraduate degree, I studied Economics and Environmental Science. I have professional experience in solar energy, urban sustainability, finance, and hospitality. My community, my family, and my passion for sustainability and arts and culture are what give my work meaning.
For years I've tutored English and math. I've worked with all ages and levels, and I'm happy to curate lessons to students' needs. I care about my students the same way I care about my work: I'm patient, passionate, curious, and always looking to make learning as engaging and lively as possible.

My tutoring approach emphasizes conversation, reading comprehension, and analytical skills. I offer both general English lessons or English exam preparation lessons. As I myself am currently learning French, lessons are conducted entirely in English. It may seem intimidating, but full immersion is invaluable for progress and confidence. I aim to create a supportive environment where we can make mistakes, ask questions, and express ourselves.
For general English fluency, lessons are built around a theme with related vocabulary and grammar woven in. I provide a cheat sheet summary at the start of every lesson as a personalized study guide. From there, we engage with articles, book excerpts, or media and have a seminar-style discussion. I curate the selection to students' areas of personal or academic interest. Expressing complex concepts, critical thinking, and cultural immersion are primary goals of my teaching style. To keep lessons and homework engaging, I also incorporate 'assigned' songs, word games, and films. I also teach idioms and the difference between casual and business English, so students can adapt their tone to any situation. Learning via structured lessons and adding in film, literature, philosophy, art, and current events help students truly develop their perspective and enjoy the process.
For English exam preparation, including TOEFL, lessons emphasize practice questions, reading speed, and the test's logic patterns. My goal is to improve students' timing for each section (reading, listening, speaking, writing), practice common question types, and focus on pacing, academic vocabulary, and writing clarity. Each lesson focuses on a specific section. First, we review homework answers, next we study weak areas, and then we practice together verbally and textually. Depending on a student's timeline, completing 2-5 hours of assigned practice questions as homework is recommended for this lesson style.
My lessons are for students of all ages and levels, whether the goal is everyday conversational fluency, academic English, or exam preparation.
